TUSD Fine Arts / OMA
Syfy channel has Warehouse 13. TUSD has Warehouse 2025.
Warehouse 13 is crammed full of arcane artifacts with seemingly magical properties. Warehouse 2025, disguised as Educational Materials Center, is also crammed full of artifacts with magical powers, the power to energize teachers and classrooms, the power to enchant children and their parents. Where else in Tucson will someone walk in and say "I'd like to borrow a dogsled?" ... and not be laughed at. Like Warehouse 13, Warehouse 2025 is hidden away, tucked between two TUSD bus parking lots on East Winsett. A nondescript pinkish building, the only clue to the wonders inside is the big 2025 over the door. Inside the door, it looks like a pretty normal building, receptionist at the front, maybe a little less signage and more decoration than the average school, but unremarkable in general. Continuing on past the sign that says Educational Materials Department, you start to notice things. Is a that a huge marionette of a oriental warrior on a horse? And drums, are those drums? You say "Excuse me" to the lady in the full burqa standing by the bookshelves. You only notice later that she's cardboard on a stand. There is a lot of painting, sculpture, and textiles on display in addition to the things hidden in drawers, bins, and cubbies. You can explore by yourself or get the full tour from Head Librarian Jeanne de la Garza. If you don't see exactly what you want, a quiet word with Jeanne and she'll introduce you to Head Curator Ruth Winslow. Ruth has the special things that aren't ready for widespread circulation but are available for those who really need them. Like Warehouse 13, Warehouse 2025 is something of a secret. Unlike Warehouse 13, they'd like to change that. Also unlike Warehouse 13, most of the wonders in Warehouse 2025 are available for use in your school. Come down and check it out.
