TUSD Fine Arts / OMA
EMC has a bright new logo and some great new art books, just in time for an artfull school year, courtesy of DUC. DUC is the Distribution to Underserved Communities Library Program which distributes great art books to libraries absolutely free. TUSD is eligible for DUC books because of the high poverty rate in our community. The DUC art books are donated by publishers. When DUC was established, they intended to ask libraries to pay for shipping, only to learn that libraries frequently can't afford even to pay shipping on big heavy art books, so they collected additional money for shipping from their donors. The result is some incredible new books for you to use in your classrooms. The picture to the right is from a new book of sculptor Subodh Gupta's work. Then there's the book on the Peoples Biennial, a touring exhibition put together by Independent Curator's International consisting of work by artists who work outside the mainstream of American Art. This incredible exhibition was at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art last year. For those interested in mixed media art there's Saar: Migrations / Transformations covering some of the work of Betye Saar. Dramatizing Myths and Tales: Creating Plays for Large Groups is a terrific how to for using drama in the classroom, with very detailed information about how to actually manage drama productions, formal or informal.
The new ARTSmobile, The American Art Experience, will start going out to schools this fall. To the left you can see Visual Arts Specialist with the very large painting she created for the new ARTSmobile. Unfortunately, if you haven't already book the new ARTSmobile for your school, you're too late for this year. It's fully booked for 2013-2014. Enduring Traditions, the ARTSmobile featuring the Navajo, Hopi, and Apache cultures still has some open dates.
On the week you reserve, the ARTSmobile will be delivered to your school on Monday, will be picked up again on Friday and will be available for lessons and activities Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
The weeks available for Enduring Traditions are the weeks of August 26, September 9, December 16, January 27, March 10, March 31, April 28, and May 12.
