TUSD Fine Arts / OMA

Bring a global perspective into your classroom with Educational Materials Center!

With the world getting smaller and flatter, it's very important for our students to be comfortable with other cultures. Educational Materials Center can help with that with videos like the Countries around the World series from Schlessinger Media. The videos are aimed at primary and intermediate grades and run about 13 minutes each.  In addition, most of the Schlessinger videos have an online teacher's guide here. Complement the videos with EMC Culture Kits, art, and artifacts from around the world. You can search the EMC video collection from school or home using the Destiny Catalog. There are several ways to get to the EMC Destiny catalogs. From school, just click on DestinyWeb on the right hand side of the dark red bar at the top of the TUSD portal page. When the list of TUSD libraries comes up, scroll down to bottom of the page. Educational Materials Center Video is on the right hand side. To search for culture kits, art and artifacts, look in the Educational Materials Center (EMC) collection, midway up on the right hand side. There's also a quick link to Educational Materials Center on right hand side of TUSD portal page. The Educational Materials Center page has both inside and outside links for both EMC catalogs. From home you can get to the EMC page from TUSD's web page, On the Employees page, it's under Your Quick Links

What about those pictures worth millions of words?  The old adage says " A picture is worth 1000 words." Well, assuming a frame rate of 30 frames per second, a 13 minute video contains 23400 pictures or the equivalent of 23,400,000 words.

And finally, for some pictures worth at least 1000 words, check out this blog!
